About the event
This one-day experiential journey, "Sea Voices," offers a critical bridge between generations to protect indigenous maritime knowledge and empower youth with cultural-ecological knowledge to navigate a climate-altered world. By means of intergenerational dialogue and creative expression, we chart the trajectory of human-sea relationships over 25+ years.
Why Knowledge Transfer Matters Now?
Elders possess invaluable traditional navigation knowledge, fish migration patterns, weather wisdom, and practices that have been built up over centuries. Knowledge is valuable, but fast vanishing. Perumathura children are learning a lifestyle based on a climatic reality far different from that of their forefathers' youth. Children are facing increased heat, scarcity of food, and dread of the once-familiar sea. Grounded experience knowledge of the change and dimensional cultural context matter. Merging indigenous knowledge with youth voices yields: Cultural Continuity, Critical Awareness, Adaptive Capacity and Agency & Hope.
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM: Youth Expression through (writing, drawing, facilitated discussion).…
